A former child actor has been disqualified from driving after admitting to taking six ecstasy tablets before crashing into a parked car.

Darcy Lachlan Waters, 20, who starred in a string of TV ads and ABC TV’s Prank Patrol, faced Holland Park Magistrates Court this morning for drug driving while on a provisional licence.

The court heard Waters could have got away with the incident, but instead he chose to do the right thing and call police and doorknock the home of the person whose car he hit.

Police prosecutor Lauren Archer told the court police were called to Holland Park West about 7am on September 27, where Waters told them he hit a parked car in his Mitsubishi station wagon.

He returned a positive roadside drug test and admitted to taking six MDMA capsules four days earlier, Ms Archer said.

Waters’ barrister, Joshua Morris, said his client had no criminal or traffic history and had tried to do the right thing and knock on the door of the owner of the parked car.

When that did not work he walked several hundred metres home and called police.

Mr Morris said his client had an exceptional work history, including as an actor performing in TV ads and shows from the age of four.

He won three awards at a US film festival including Best Teen Actor and Best Villain.

As a younger child he performed on the international hit kids TV show Prank Patrol.

He later graduated from South Bank’s JMC Academy with a degree in film and acting and had started a nursing diploma.

Mr Morris said Waters, who pleaded guilty early, was tired at the time and the accident occurred on the crest of a narrow street where cars had difficulty passing each other.

The prosecution also had not led evidence proving the MDMA was a factor in the accident and the capsules were taken four days earlier.

Magistrate Sue Ganasan disqualified Waters from driving for three months, fined him $250 and recorded a conviction.

“Every other car that travelled over the hill managed to do so without hitting that car,’’ she said.
