Violent attack on Brisbane train

Ruthless and violent attacks on teenagers are being filmed and shared on social media as parents and students grow fearful of a youth gang believed to be targeting Brisbane’s bayside.

The most recent footage, which was shared by the alleged attackers on social media, includes images of two violent attacks in Wynnum during the last week of the school holidays.

Local residents attribute the violence to a group who go under multiple names featuring the ‘Dub C’ tag, meaning Wynnum central, along with the 4178 tag, which is the suburb’s postcode.

The residents say the group has been allegedly targeting bayside streets for the past two years.

The series of shocking videos follow footage which came to light this week of another attack on a girl in broad daylight where she was stomped on the head.

The first incident caught on tape was an horrific attack on a Wynnum train on April 12, where a boy was confronted by two other teenagers before being yelled at and punched as he is heard screaming while he tries to escape.

The Police Railway Squad is believed to be investigating the incident.

Two days later, a teenage girl was lured by a group to the popular Florence St in Wynnum’s CBD before another girl attacked her in broad daylight.

The victim was repeatedly punched and kicked in the head before a stranger stopped the attack.

The mother of the victim said her daughter was traumatised by the incident, which was not reported to police.

“It was awful to get the phone call of my girl gasping for air because she was crying that someone had hurt her,” she said.

“Then to see the video posted and plastered all over the internet the next day made me feel helpless that she went through that and none of her ‘friends’ had helped her.

“As she got hit to the ground she looked up and seen all her friends laughing and filming so she knew not to fight back because they will all jump in as she has witnessed in their other videos.

“After the fight, my daughter received messages the boys had set this up and got the girl into Wynnum to carry out the assault and film it for some sort of sick fun.”

Another concerned Wynnum resident said parents were taking dramatic steps to avoid their children possibly running into the group.

“I know some parents have kept their kids home from school, some refuse to go shopping at a particular location,” he said.

The recent videos are part of more than 20 attacks shared on social media in the past year.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said they were working actively to prevent, disrupt and respond to youth crime across the South Brisbane District, including the bayside area.

“The QPS is working with other government departments, service providers, small businesses, and community members to ensure effective measures are taken to address youth crime and create change,” the spokesman said.

“Detectives from the Wynnum Child Protection Investigation Unit have been actively investigating youth-related offences and are engaging with the community to detect and deter young offenders.

“Given importance young people place on social media and the reach of such platforms, the issue of offences being filmed and subsequently shared is not unique to any specific area of Queensland.

“Police investigate all complaints as soon as possible under the scope of the criminal code and Youth Justice Act.

“Police in South Brisbane District are active daily within local schools and the community working towards the prevention and disruption of youth crime.”

The QPS spokesman also said all matters of assault or violence are taken very seriously by police and anyone who witnesses criminal activity or who is a victim should contact Triple-000 or Policelink.
