The weather may be perfect and the fish biting but this Brisbane fishing expert is staying on dry land during COVID-19. Here’s why he’s made the tough choice.

AS most would have guessed by now, I love my fishing and going out on the boat in beautiful Moreton Bay, which is right at our doorstep.

Knowing the fish are thick this time of year, I made the decision not to venture out over the Easter long weekend, that decision was very hard indeed because the weather was at its finest, the crabs were jumping into the crab pots and the prawns getting caught by the bucket.

The extra large whiting and squid were all over the bay and the school mackerel were grabbing the spoons going past them.

But reading all the reasons why you could and could not go out, I figured what’s the big deal if we missed out on a few days, especially remembering some of us retired folk can go out anytime of the year.

I don’t have my mind set either way on going for a fish or not, I understand the concerns of both sides and I can’t blame anyone going out to catch a fish, I just hope that we get over this quickly and life on the bay can get back to normal.

In the meantime I have found plenty to do on the old boat - spit and polishing the fishing gear and of course stocking up on all the new fishing gear, which we will need when we can get back on the water.

I would like to thank all that sent me photos of their catches, it was good to see.

So until next week, I am hoping good fishing for all will not be far away.
