MAJOR plans to demolish and redevelop the Tarragindi Bowls Club to include a six-storey, 94-unit facility are still yet to be formally submitted, according to Brisbane City Council.

Liza Wieland, who lives beside the proposed site, said the community was thankful for the time the delay afforded them to consider the proposal.

“We have met and created a committee and we are in the process of incorporation,” Ms Wieland said.

“We’ve chosen a name, the Tarragindi Residents Alliance, so that when there is something concrete to fight, we will be organised.

“We will be definitely contacting the community.”

Ms Wieland said as long as the developer still planned to continue the development, the group’s position remained the same.

“We wish the development to be very sympathetic to the current character of Tarragindi,” she said.

A RetireAustralia spokesman said it was committed to taking as long as required before submitting a development application to council.

“The project team have doorknocked all immediate neighbours, as well as hosting two community information sessions at the Tarragindi Bowls Club,” the spokesman said.

“Since the community information sessions, the project team has also held a number of one-on-one meetings with immediate neighbours of the site and these will continue.”

He said it was unknown when an application would be submitted to council.

“At this stage we do not have a defined time frame of how long this process will take,” the spokesman said.

Councillor Steve Griffiths (Moorooka) said he had used the time to work on planning a rally, expected to be held in February.
