David Jones launched an Australian first new concept store at Westfield Carindale last Thursday.

The Carindale store has downsized to only lease the first floor with Kmart taking over its second level.

To reopen the store, David Jones redesigned the floorspace to a minimalist design with a gallery style approach and parallels to the Elizabeth Street flagship heritage design.

The store entrance combines a café and gifting destination.

There are 40 phone chargers located throughout store for customer use.

A new beauty department layout and updated fitting room layout also feature in the redesigned space.

The new-look store is the first new generation David Jones store design concept.

David Jones retail director Aaron Faraguna said the new concept emphasised the heritage of the 180-year-old department store.

The store offers a premium shopping destination within its beauty, fashion, shoes, accessories, children and home categories.
