Friends of a Brisbane man killed in a crash on the Gateway Motorway have given emotional tributes to a man they say helped others and always made people laugh.

A Brisbane father, who was killed in a crash on a major highway, has been remembered as a person who helped others and made people laugh.

Darren Mallory, 52, from southeast Brisbane, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition on March 24 after his vehicle crashed into the back of a stationary tow truck on the Gateway Motorway at Carindale around 1.30am.

Mr Mallory died as a result of his injuries on Saturday.

Many of his friends took to social media to pay tribute to their fallen mate.

“To my beautiful friend Darren Mallory … I’m going to miss you my friend,” one person said on Facebook.

“You were such a big part of my life, you were such an amazing unique person, who only ever wanted me to be the best version of myself, you taught me so much, you truly cared and always made sure I was safe.

“There will never be another quite like you my friend.

“I love you my friend I’ll never forget you and I will always true and stay true to everything you taught me along the way.”

Another friend said they were “devastated” by the news of Mr Mallory’s passing.

“Know that there are so many people who have you in there hearts, we pray for u (sic),” he posted.

“You have brought so much laughter and fun times to us all.

“Times shared with you will be forever cherished.

“It’s been a privilege to have been a part of your world.”

Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
