Craig Andrew John Love, 42, of Tingalpa sentenced for unlawful use of motorcycle

A Tingalpa father only released from jail last year took a drugged up joy ride on a stolen motorbike, a court has heard.

The surprising history of meth

A 42-year-old father-of-one with a significant criminal history has avoided a possible prison sentence after using a motorcycle illegally while heavily intoxicated by meth.

Appearing at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday, Craig Andrew John Love of Tingalpa pleaded guilty to six charges.

They included unlawfully using a vehicle and driving while under the influence of liquor.

The court heard Love was intercepted on a stolen motorcycle on March 17 at Kangaroo Point.

The defendant showed significant signs of intoxication from a substance, believed to have been meth, according to the prosecution.

It followed an earlier run-in with police, when on September 11, last year Love was caught in the act by police while fitting stolen number plates to a motorcycle.

While Love had held a driver’s licence at the age of 19, the court was told he had never held a motorcycle licence.

A police prosecutor said the offending was aggravated for occurring on the back of a 10-page criminal history populated with dishonesty offences and unlawful use of vehicles.

Love was paroled from prison on April 28 last year after similar offending, which prompted the prosecution to call for a prison sentence.

Defence solicitor Jim Coburn said his client had significantly cut down on his meth abuse and was committed to becoming a better role model for his teen daughter, who had since come under his care.

The court further heard Love had made full admissions to police when interviewed and had only committed some of the offences while on parole.

Magistrate Zachary Sarra denounced the man for endangering the community and sentenced him to two years’ probation.

He was further ordered to complete 60 hours of unpaid community service and disqualified from driving for three years.
