A man busted on 89 property crime and drug charges after allegedly targeting the underground car parks of Brisbane’s ritzy inner-city suburbs has been identified.
Police arrested Cody Maidens on July 19 at an East Brisbane address following a two-month investigation by the Dutton Park Property Crime Team and Riverside Tactical Crime Squad.
Police alleged the 40-year-old, of no fixed address, targeted underground car parks, mainly in Kangaroo Point and South Brisbane, over the two-month period with the intention of steal from lockable cages.
Mr Maidens was allegedly found in possession of drugs, including GBL (Gamma butyrolactone) and cannabis, as well as various drug utensils, stolen keys and a stolen gym pass when he was found by police.
He was charged with a long list of offences including 39 counts of fraud, 31 counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, five counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, four counts of stealing, two counts of enter premises with intent, several counts for drug related offences, and one count each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and receive tainted property.
Vision of Mr Maiden’s arrest was released by police.
He appeared at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, July 22, where his matter was adjourned until August 21.
Detective Inspector Rodney Watts said the arrest was the result of hard work and perseverance by investigating officers over the two-month period.
“This investigation demonstrates the South Brisbane District’s unwavering commitment to bringing offenders to justice and ensure our community is safe and feels safe,” he said.
