A BRISBANE sports complex is set for its biggest redevelopment in its 63-year history after a $9 million plan to revamp the centre was revealed.
Clem Jones Centre CEO Steve Heald announced the plans for the venue along with State Member for Chatsworth Steve Minnikin, who said the LNP would guarantee $4 million of funding for the project, if successful in October’s State Election.
The redevelopment, which has been in the works for years, will transform the centre into a one-stop shop for medical services and health and fitness.

It will include a suite of allied health services, office accommodation for peak sporting bodies and a new entry to the venue’s aquatic centre.
Mr Heald said he believed the revamp would make the venue the pre-eminent sporting complex in Brisbane or even southeast Queensland.
“This is what the community has been crying out for, for years,” he said.
The Clem Jones Centre on Zahel St was opened in 1957 and is now the home to 17 sporting clubs, 8000 registered participants, 3000 gym members and 1800 learn to swim.
Mr Heald said the latest plans build on the $5 million revamp of their gym, which opened in May, 2018.
“As a local who has grown up in Carina, I remember as a young kid learning to swim and playing sports at the Clem Jones Centre with my siblings,” Mr Minnikin said.
“This centre has been influential to many locals like myself, promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within the Chatsworth community.
“This iconic centre has so much potential and that is why I have committed to match the centre’s funding to ensure this multimillion-dollar community facility is delivered.
“Once this redevelopment is complete, there’s no doubt this centre will set the benchmark for health and wellbeing in Queensland and I am proud to be supporting a plan that will see jobs and opportunities for our community well into the future.”
