A PROJECT that will light the way to a brighter Stones Corner is about to get under way.

Councillor Fiona Cunningham (Coorparoo) this week unveiled a plan to light up the park infront of the Stones Corner Library in a bid to create an impressive evening entry statement to the shopping precinct.

The leopard trees are to be flood lit and the impressive fig tree will be bud lit.

The work would be carried out under the council’s City of Lights program.

Cr Cunningham said she suggested the idea at a recent Our Stones Corner group meeting and it was well received.

“This is about supporting local traders and the night-time economy and I think it’s a great thing for the area,” she said.

Lady Marmalade Cafe owner Sonja Searle said the library park was the gateway into the precinct and the project would give the area a much-needed boost.

“This will announce that you’ve reached Stones Corner and it will really lift the area,” she said.

“Driving into Stones Corner the lights will make it look beautiful and joyful and a great area to visit.”

“With all the different places to come and eat and the craft beer places … we’re becoming a foodies paradise.

“No-one can make people come and buy from the local traders, but if we can make the area more appealing and council can beautify the area, then hopefully it brings more people into the precinct.”
