A BRISBANE soccer player who attended the same city nightclub as a university student who tested positive to the coronavirus has been cleared today.

The senior player from Brisbane Premier League side, Bayside United, had been in isolation since last Friday after his last visit to the Lota-based club on Thursday night.

He visited the popular Friday’s Nightclub the same night as a 22-year-old University of Queensland student, who later tested positive for the coronavirus.

United president Greg Pascall said he hoped they were able to return to training after the test came back negative but was awaiting advice from Football Brisbane.

Football Brisbane provided an update on the situation earlier today on their website and said they would be able to provide further information tomorrow after a board meeting tonight.

“Football Brisbane is awaiting further advice on the FFA guidelines which will come via Football Queensland. The Football Brisbane Board of Directors are meeting this evening and will consider the information provided by FFA when making a decision on future Football Brisbane matches,” the statement said.

Among the topics which will be covered in the meeting include competition options should play be suspended as well as rules of game variances due to COVID-19 or potential COVID-19 cases.

While Football Brisbane games on the weekend were cancelled, Football Queensland competitions, including the NPL Queensland and Football Queensland Premier League went ahead as planned and are set to do the same this weekend after a statement from the Football Federation Australia earlier today.

In the statement, FFA CEO James Johnson announced the A-League and W-League would be played without fans in attendance, while grassroots football, including all levels of the NPL and FFA Cup Preliminary Rounds, may continue to be played at this time in line with Government advice.

Most Brisbane clubs, including Eastern Suburbs FC have immediately cancelled training for teams, who aren’t scheduled to play until May following advice from the Federal Government and the FFA.
