Initial estimations suggest putting in an overpass could cost in excess of $200 million.
Last year the State Government paid $800,000 for a feasibility study to determine the best way to fix the crossing
The findings of the study are expected to be delivered by late 2019.
Cr Schrinner said the railway crossing needed fixing now and he didn’t want motorists to wait for this critical project any longer.
“The rail crossing at Coopers Plains is known as being one of the worst level crossings in Queensland and the frequency of trains at the significant rail crossings is severely impacting on congestion,” Cr Schrinner told the Southern Star.
“This is not just about easing congestion, it’s also about increasing the safety for everyone that passes through this area.
“I want residents to spend less time stuck in congestion and more time doing what they love.”
In April, council committed $40 million to upgrade Lindum Road rail crossing.
