One of the National Basketball League’s biggest rivalry clashes on Boxing Day has been postponed after members of the Brisbane Bullets tested positive for Covid.
The Bullets released a statement this morning announcing their game against Queensland rivals the Cairns Taipans, known as the Sunshine Stoush, on Sunday at Nissan Arena would be rescheduled.
The Bullets were deemed close contacts and ordered to get tested by Queensland Health after last playing the Illawarra Hawks, who have since had members test positive, at home on Sunday.
“Positive results have since been returned from Brisbane thus the Boxing Day game between Brisbane and the Cairns Taipans has been postponed,” the Bullets statement said.
In the statement, the Bullets also said all staff and players were double vaccinated.
“The health and safety of our players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is our number one priority when considering these matters,” a club spokesman said.
“The Bullets will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities. Regular testing of all players and staff will continue, while further testing will be carried out on individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts.”
The announcement also comes after the Queensland Government today released there were 598 new cases.
