Plans have been revealed for a new entertainment venue in the rising CBD on Brisbane’s bayside, which could transform one of the city’s hottest strips.

A Brisbane’s entertainment strip could be in store for its biggest addition yet after plans were unveiled for a new events centre in the heart of a bayside CBD.

The rejuvenated Wynnum Health Hub at 89 Bay Tce will welcome a new tenant in July with the Bayside Events and Function Centre to open its doors at the site of the Fun Fit Play, which recently closed.

It will be a new location to hold events including weddings, school formals and presentations, hens and bucks parties, corporate gatherings and more – the venue will be the latest entertainment addition to the Wynnum CBD, which has reached new heights since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The events centre builds on the success of popular bars and eateries, The Fat Duck and Mr Hibachi, which brought the strip on Bay Tce to life in the past 18 months.

Both venues are now being revamped, under new management, into a two-storey tapas bar with street dining called Miss Mexicana.

Justin Ham from Berrima Develop Pty Ltd, who owns the Wynnum Health Hub, said the concept would drive population into the area and support other local businesses in the area.

“The Wynnum CBD will be the place to be for any event,” he said.

“This centre has over 200 covered carparks.”

The plans for the centre also come after it was revealed a new modern lounge bar would also open in the Wynnum CBD in June and just more than a year following the long-awaited opening of the Wynnum Cinema.

Councillor for Wynnum Manly, Peter Cumming (ALP), said he was excited for residents to see more entertainment venues opening in Wynnum.

“It’s always great to see new businesses coming to Wynnum or Manly and with more businesses opening recently, I think competition only helps produce a thriving precinct,” he said.

Bookings are already being taken for the new venue through the Waterloo Bay Hotel Facebook page.
