A “hot-tempered” dad who previously elbowed and punched a woman in the face, has used a truckie’s own vehicle to assault him.
Barney Puru Pera, 44, of Crestmead admitted “there was no excuse” for his behaviour when he appeared at Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday.
Pera pleaded guilty to a single count of common assault.
The court heard Pera on February 12 stopped at a Murrarie 7-Eleven after he clipped the mirror of a truck at around 6.55am.
When Pera allegedly copped verbal abuse from the driver he had collided with he shoved him multiple times, including in the neck.
As the victim retreated to his truck, Pera smashed the man’s truck door into his back.
A police prosecutor said the victim felt “immediate pain” and noted it followed a previous assault on a woman.
In 2010 Pera punched and elbowed a woman in the face when she confronted the defendant after her vehicle allegedly had stones thrown at it by Pera’s daughter.
An unrepresented Pera said he had every intention of apologising for the minor collision with the victim driver when he copped verbal abuse and “snapped”.
Pera acknowledged there was no excuse for his behaviour which he regretted.
He told the court he was aware of his anger issues which stemmed from previous trauma and had sought counselling.
Magistrate Zachary Sarra warned the man his “hot-tempered” nature could easily have turned deadly during the road rage.
Mr Sarra acknowledged the man’s considerable gap in offending and spared him a criminal conviction.
Pera was fined $600 and ordered to pay his victim $400 in compensation.
No conviction was recorded.
