GREAT news for boaties.
As of this Friday, leisure boating will be allowed with coronavirus restrictions eased by the State Government.
You don’t have to fish anymore if you don’t want to and it’s a great chance for the family to get out and get sine fresh air and sea salt.
You can’t beat the weather this time of the year and the fishing is pretty good as well.
The crabs are plentiful all over the bay – in the shallows or in the deep water – it seems wherever you put the pots, you will catch some.

Peel Island has plenty around.
Whiting have moved into the Maroon Gutter/hole and the Amity Banks and also plenty at the sand hills.
Also, wherever the whiting are, so are the tiger squid – the bay is full of them and this week as the water clears with smaller tides, they will be looking for any squid jig you can throw at them.
Anything with orange/red in it seems to work best and some of these tigers are very, very big and the cuttlefish and arrows are starting to come on in deeper water as well.
There are plenty of school mackerel in the bay and some extra large spotty mackerel hanging around as they do this time of the year in the basin around Peel Island.
When trolling for schoolies or floating out pillies (pilchards), don’t be surprised to get smashed with spotties that are 85cm plus.
Squire, snapper and sweetlip were also around in the shallows last week and a few big cod to make it worthwhile fishing the last of the outgoing tides in Peel and Green Islands were very productive.
Boaties should be ecstatic with the news they can get out this Friday and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more out on the water.
Until next week, good fishing.
