WHERE BUSINESSES ARE GOING BUST
Brisbane developer Rogerscorp, headed by innovator Simon Rogers, is waiting for Logan City Council approval for its state-of-the-art, eight-storey building for Springwood.
From podiatry to dentistry, cancer care to children’s health, the Springwood Health Hub, slated for Paxton St, is designed to be a one-stop health shop catering to all types of health needs.
Because of its location and height, the project does not need impact assessments from neighbouring businesses and its details were lodged with the council late last month.
Logan City councillor Lisa Bradley said it was an exciting development with a food and drink outlet along with office space, shops and an underground carpark included.
“It is legally allowed under our planning scheme and it’s pleasing to note that it will be facing the M1 so that people can see that Springwood is starting to take off,” Cr Bradley said.
“I’m looking forward to council making a future direction on how they would like to see Springwood progress.
“Previous councils have said they wanted it to be the second CBD for the state and despite the COVID-19 downturn it is definitely progressing.”

Mr Rogers said once built, the health hub would stem the need for thousands of Logan residents to travel to Brisbane for medical treatment.
“More than 75 per cent of residents leave Logan every year for medical treatment,” he said.
“This is going to change the way people access medical care and will make it easier for many patients especially with all the on-site parking.”
Statistics from National Australia Bank and Quantium, prepared for the project showed 63 per cent of the healthcare transactions made by Logan residents last year were in Brisbane.
Mr Rogers said the Springwood region had a high rate of potentially preventable hospitalisations when compared to Brisbane and state and national averages.
“Preventable hospitalisations rates in Springwood exceed these averages by up to 39 per cent due to patient conditions surrounding heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes,” he said.
“This therefore suggests a strong need for health care services within the area and also reflects in the mortality rates associated with each of these conditions.”
According to the statistics, bowel cancer mortality rates were also high in the Springwood-Kingston area with the mortality rate being 25 per cent higher than the Australian National Average.
Mr Rogers said it was also important that the facility had additional parking for patients and said there was also up to 4600 sqm of lettable office space.
Ray White Commercial Property leasing agent Franz Stapelberg said construction of the $30 million project would start early next year creating about 151 jobs.
“The Logan catchment has health statistics that suggest there is a strong underlying demand for additional primary and secondary care facilities,” Mr Stapelberg said.
“The building has been designed by award-winning architect Rothelowman in order to ensure architectural excellence for this prominent location.”
