Fire crews will be on scene battling a 15m fire at a Brisbane business for hours to come.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services confirmed a fire broke out a business on Anton Rd about 3.20pm in Hemmant, Brisbane.
“So far we have nine crews on scene,” a QFES spokesman said.
The QFES spokesman said it was a 15m-high scrap metal fire.
“It’s a pile of scrap metal with possibly other bits of equipment in there too,” he said.
“We’ve been on scene a bit now and have diminished it but will be there for a long time yet.”
Apparently crews have to first work to take apart the scrap metal pile to fight the blaze.
As of 5pm there were no patients and no one was unaccounted for.
“It’s about 40 by 40 sqm in size,” the QFES spokesman said.
“We’ve got the big truck with the platform there.
“It’s massive.”
A second fire on Friday afternoon destroyed a home north of Brisbane after a battery explosion in its garage.
Queensland Fire and Emergency said five crews had been dispatched to a private residence on Macdonnell Road at Clontarf about 3.15pm.
Queensland Police Service said Moreton Bay officers were dispatched at 3:17pm to reports of battery sparks in the two-storey dwelling’s garage which caused the blaze to engulf most of the structure before residents evacuated.
Police then closed Macdonnell Road between Church Street and Wave Street both in both directions as QFES contained the blaze to the lower level.
The fire was extinguished two hours later however at 8:30pm the road was still closed as fire crews overhauled the area for safety and removed debris.
Paramedics said they were on standby for firefighters however the fire caused no injuries.
The Fire Investigation Unit were unable to confirm the cause of the blaze as assessment continued.
