A solar farm, thermal system or water treatment project are among the “energy solutions” that could be developed at The Mill at Moreton Bay.
A motion at tomorrow’s general council meeting will invite expressions of interest for “potential district energy solutions” at the site’s council-owned land.
It comes less than a month after $25 million was handed to the Mill precinct in the Moreton Bay Regional Council’s budget for work on the road and streetscapes.
According to council documents, the EOI process will be targeted towards developers with the capability to deliver “utility systems” such as a solar farm, district thermal or energy systems and water treatment project.
“Given the momentum at which the energy sector continues to evolve, an EOI is the preferred first step... to ensure clarity about the range of energy options in the market,” the documents read.
Of the 200 hectares of council-owned land at The Mill, 65 hectares are developable.
The EOI process would allow the council to explore collaborating with the University of the Sunshine Coast, according to the documents.
Councillors will need to consider proposals before progressing to a tender stage.
First declared in 2016, The Mill at Moreton Bay is a Priority Development Area (PDA) covering 460ha across Petrie, Kallangur and Lawnton.
A new USC campus was opened at the site in March.
