She was squirted with a hose, pushed with poles and hauled by her collar. As darkness fell, firies and a shop owner clutching a torch finally saved Sprite the cat.

It was Sprite the cat’s first big adventure, and her owner Alexandra Bishop hopes it will be the last.
The saga began last week when the curious moggy was spotted clinging to the back of a car driven by Ms Bishop’s housemates.
They stopped after noticing pedestrians frantically waving at them to stop, but that was just the beginning of poor Sprite’s troubles.

She bolted across the road and squeezed herself in a gap between two buildings.
When Ms Bishop, who raced home after being alerted by her housemates, arrived at the scene she found Sprite firmly wedged in the
gap.
When it became apparent the terrified cat could not move, Ms Bishop called Fire and Rescue for help.
Over the next three hours, a crew from Windsor Fire Station employed every trick in the firies’ book to dislodge Sprite, without avail.
“They tried hosing her, in hopes she would have enough movement to work herself out,” Ms
Bishop said.
“They tried hooking her collar which promptly broke off.
“They even tried pushing her out with long poles.’’
Finally, as the sun began to set, the owner of a nearby shop, Reflect Mirrors, shone a torch on the soggy moggie as the rescue team managed to hook Sprite’s back leg in a makeshift lasso and drag her out.
She was taken to a local vet, frazzled but otherwise unharmed.
Ms Bishop said she planned to shout the firies a hamburger lunch for their efforts.
