Aged care developer Arcare opened its 17th Queensland facility near the site of the old TAFE college at Griffith Pl in Seven Hills on Monday.
About 20 per cent of the 106 suites in the $55 million project are already sold.
The 6000 sqm centre boasts a wellbeing centre, hair salon, cafe, theatre room, private and public dining areas, activity rooms and two courtyards.
It would also offer a mix of permanent and dementia care, Arcare CEO Colin Singh said.
Mr Singh said the facility had a dedicated “lifestyle team’’ who would work with the residents to develop a list of activities and events they would like to see on their monthly social calendar.
“You can expect to see more than just the typical bingo on offer: beer brewing clubs, choirs and even bands are popular at our other residences,’’ he said.
Residence manager, Bish Shrestha, said it was Arcare’s first aged care project in the east Brisbane area.
It opened another aged care home at Springwood in February.
A nearby seven-storey unit project at 23 Griffith Pl, proposed by Heran Building Group last year as part of the Clearview Urban Village, raised hackles among residents as it was double the maximum height of previous plans.
Council officers advised Heran in February that they did not support the proposed units due to height, scale, intensity, amenity and traffic impacts.
Councillor Kara Cook (Morningside) launched a petition at the time which attracted 200 signatures.
Heran purchased the 9ha TAFE site in 2011 and Council approved the development of 400 units and an aged care facility in June, 2014.
