The Calamvale Hotel and the Calamvale Hotel Suites and Conference Centre in Brisbane’s east are about to get a sleek, modern makeover.
The original structure has been largely unchanged since the 1980s but now there are plans afoot to enclose the drive-through, add extra outdoor dining, freshen up the landscaping and provide a unified look to match the hotel suites’ architecture.
Its owners said they wanted to modify the building’s appearance to be “in-line with and thematically incorporated into more recently completed motel and restaurant works’’.
The changes had been earmarked to take place while the motel building works were in
progress but had to be delayed.
Changes include extending the “theme of falling roof lines’’ across the building carpark to the east-end of the building, getting rid of the bullnose veranda and “creating a modern and contemporary presentation for the entire complex’’.
“A new external colour scheme, selected to enhance the building will be complemented with
screening and landscape area and provision of greater shade,’’ planners for the project, Victor G. Feros, said in the development application (DA).
The drive-through bottle shop will be enclosed for greater security but will still operate as normal.
Smokers using the sports/gaming lounge will also score a new outdoor area.
Designed by Craig W. Chandler, the proposal includes a new courtyard, gaming area, function space and new bar and there will be a new, unified colour scheme.
There will be no changes to access on either the Beaudesert Rd or Compton Rd frontages, no extra car parks and the overall size of the buildings will not greatly expand.
The property is a full-service hotel facility with bars, restaurants, function rooms, entertainment venues, gaming lounge, takeaway sales and 4.5 star rated short-term accommodation including 60 guest suites, fitness centre and telecommunications facilities.
