A VIOLENT woman has “burnt her bridges” on the close-knit island she lives on after allegedly throwing hot chips in the face of an unsuspecting shop manager and causing the knee bone of another man to be left exposed after throwing a scooter at him.

The 28-year-old Macleay Island woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was granted bail today after appearing via phone at the Cleveland Magistrates Court.

She was charged with wilful damage, obstructing police and a string of domestic violence offences.

The court heard the defendant had allegedly caused “immediate discomfort” to the face of a store manager on March 31 after she called him a “f****n c**t, f****n P**i” and threw a cup of hot chips at him.

The mother of three had allegedly become irate at a perceived slight to her accompanying child.

The police prosecutor said the incident was captured on CCTV and had caught the store manager by complete surprise.

On her way out of the store the defendant allegedly threw groceries off racks and pushed over an elderly person.

On April 18 the woman allegedly followed her retreating partner into a bedroom where she struck him, giving him a black eye and left a big wound on the man’s back after biting him.

And on June 4 police and paramedics were called to an island residence after the woman allegedly threw a scooter so hard at her former partner it exposed the bone on his knee.

The police prosecutor said the woman had become enraged after a drunken argument with the man and had admitted her actions to attending police.

The court heard the woman had since been banned from two grocery stores on the island.

Defence solicitor Stephanie Tsimos said her client was in an “extremely violent” relationship with the man with whom she shared a child; the violence was alleged to be alcohol-driven and “go both ways”.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said it was deeply concerning that the alleged offending had occurred in front of the woman’s young children.

Magistrate Vasta implored the woman to take responsibility for her own actions after having burnt her bridges in the community.

“You have created a very big problem for yourself, haven’t you?” Magistrate Vasta said.

The woman is scheduled to next appear before the court on July 27.
