A Bayside teenager who fronted court for the first time after CCTV caught him performing burnouts on four occasions has risked his dreams of becoming a pilot.

Ryan Keith Firth, 19, labourer, pleaded guilty to four counts of wilfully making unnecessary noise and smoke at the Wellington Point esplanade on June 11, 2024.

Police Prosecutor Daniel Agresta told Cleveland Magistrates Court Firth had accumulated a significant driving history for a young man.

“These offences damage the roads and cost the community when they need to be repaired,” Sgt Agresta said.

“He was caught on CCTV doing burnouts on March 6, April 4, April 8 April 14 of this year.

“He was served with a notice to appear and attended the police station two days later wearing a Mexican hoon cartel jumper.’’

Sgt Agresta said Firth should be sentenced to serve community service to repay the community for the damage he had caused.

Firth’s lawyer said his client’s car had been impounded and he accepted his acts were irresponsible and reckless.

“He plans on starting his commercial pilots license and does intend on getting his diploma of aviation,” the lawyer said.

“He hopes to one day work for Qantas.’’

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said she had sent to someone to jail for similar offending.

“I hope you will grow up,” Ms Vasta said.

“If you’ve ever rocked a baby to sleep for an hour and then some idiot hoon who think they’re cool goes up your street... it is frustrating.

“It might build up your self esteem to see what you do to the roads and you might think that is how you make your mark on the world.

“People who don’t have a lot going on in their lives attach their self worth to their motor vehicles.’’

Firth was given an $800, 12-month good behaviour bond. No convictions were recorded.
