A Stradbroke Island family is rallying to support five children left behind following the unexpected death of their mother on New Year’s Eve.

Talisah Edwards, 32, died unexpectedly died on December 31, according to sister Kaleenah Edwards.

“Talisah leaves behind five beautiful babies aged between 10 years to seven months and we want to give their mumma the send-off she deserves,” Ms Edwards said.

“My sister’s death was an unexpected, horrible shock that has hit our family hard.

“I love you so much Talisah … I’m so sorry my sister.

“I will cherish all of our memories together. I’m going to miss every single thing about you! I can’t believe this is real.

“My heart, soul and spirit are crushed to pieces … your babies will be taken care of and will never forget their mummy and how much you love them.

“Rest now in the Dreamtime my beautiful sister.”

Ms Edwards said her sister was the tribal owner of the land Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), a descendant of the tribe Nunukal, and an Aboriginal dancer.

“Talisah was a beautiful, strong, cultured, family orientated woman,” Ms Edwards said.

“Talisah was a stunning, caring, loving and strong woman … never afraid to speak her mind and very articulate with her words.

“She defended all she loved fiercely. She was one of a kind.

“I will forever be in awe, she was just so beautiful in so many ways.”

Loved one Tegan Burns started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Ms Edward’s funeral and children.

“We are absolutely devastated by Talisah’s passing and are not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service,” Ms Burns said.

“We want to give Talisah the memorial she deserves, to honour her memory and say our last goodbyes. We are asking for donations to help cover the costs of the funeral service.

“Talisah leaves behind five beautiful children and we are also seeking funds for the family to cover the general day to day expenses of caring for five extra children.

“Any donations will be greatly appreciated.”
