Six cars have been spray-painted and broken into during a vandalism rampage on North Stradbroke Island overnight.

Police said that the cars were parked in a “makeshift carpark” off Yabby St at Dunwich — a grassed area used by many locals who take water taxis to the mainland.

The cars were also sprayed with the numbers 4183 — the island’s postcode.

The cars were found just before 8am this morning covered in bright red spray paint with tags reading FTP, an abbreviation for f**k the police, and NSI which is short for North Stradbroke Island.

At least two of the vehicles had been broken into and had property stolen.

Senior Constable Dave Bourke from Dunwich Police Station said one of the vehicle’s owners had arrived from the mainland to One Mile jetty to find the damage and alerted the police.

He said the time of the incident was not known and police were working to determine how many people may have been involved.

“We don’t know if it occurred last night or this morning, but we suspect it was this morning,” he said.

“(Graffiti incidents) happen every now and then, but this is the worst I’ve seen.”

Snr Const. Bourke urged members of the public who had not reported their vehicle damage to contact Policelink on 131 444.
