Shocked friends pay tribute to Lamb Island man lost in violent death

The shocking and horrific death of a beloved Lamb Island man has rocked the close-knit community as his alleged killer faces court.

THE small Lamb Island community in Moreton Bay is in mourning following the violent death of Scott Pilton, a man they affectionately called Slim.

The 48-year-old islander died yesterday after his life support was turned off at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Mr Pilton suffered critical head and brain injuries during an alleged bashing at around 12am on May 15.

A Lamb Island local who wished to remain anonymous said the community had an endearing fondness of Mr Pilton.

“I saw him yesterday (Thursday) before this happened and am a bit shocked myself,” the resident said.

“He is really, really well liked here. He likes a drink but he was harmless and he would help you with anything.

“He is a good bloke and very much loved on this island.”

Mr Pilton was known to do odd jobs on the island which is situated between Redland Bay on the Redlands coast and North Stradbroke Island.

The Lamb Island Recreational Club will start a donation for the Mr Pilton, affectionately called Slim, and plans to hold a memorial for him when the venue reopens on July 11.

“Due to the recent awful tragedy on our island, this day/night will also be a memorial to Scott Pilton,” the post read on Facebook.

“Slim to his mates. Anyone who knew Slim, knows he loved his pool.

“The Club will be placing a wishing well at the bar by the end of this week until July 12, for anyone who wants to donate.

“All the funds raised will be divided equally and given to his three children.

“Slim Scott would have loved it. RIP mate.”

Paul Anthony Quinlan, 55, from Macleay Island, had his matter heard in the Brisbane Arrest Court on Monday. The matter was adjourned to July 13.

Police allege Quinlan killed Pilton at a Lamb Island home.

Officers were called to the Perulpa Drive address about 1am.

Mr Pilton died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Sunday morning after he suffered life-threatening facial injuries, police said.

Quinlan first appeared in court on Friday and was charged with one count of an act intended to cause grievous bodily harm and obstructing police. He was denied bail.

Police will seek to withdraw the act intended to cause grievous bodily harm charge, the court heard.
