Sheldon College’s 2019 Dux, Richard Bahrett, has described the raw emotion he felt as he was named the school’s top student.
Richard said having his entire family at the November 5 awards night made the moment even more special.
“When my name was called, I was overwhelmed with feelings of excitement and pride knowing that my entire family was there watching me. I really wanted to make my grandparents proud,” Richard said.
Attending Sheldon College for only two years, Richard has established himself as a dedicated and mature student, throwing himself into every aspect of school life.
An accomplished violinist, Richard has participated in a variety of different musical ensembles including the Strings Ensemble, Senior Strings Trio and the Arts Academy Band.
In addition to his musical talents, Richard excelled academically receiving subject prizes for Chemistry, Mathematics B, Mathematics C, Music Extension and Physics.
“My favourite subject is Maths C even though it is quite conceptual, there’s always that spark of joy that you get when you finish solving a problem because you realise that you’ve accomplished something that’s difficult and challenging,” he said.
Combining his love for science and helping those in need, Richard plans to study Medicine in 2020.
“After leaving Sheldon College, I plan to study Medicine at the University of Queensland,” Richard said.
“I’ve always had a passion for helping people and I believe medicine is the best route for me to take.”
