A CAT left to slowly suffocate in a plastic bag after being dumped in a drain has died in an horrific animal cruelty case east of Brisbane.
The RSPCA is investigating after the paw of the still-alive cat was found poking out of a plastic bag, by a dog walker on Russell Island last Thursday.

Assuming the animal was dead, the Russell Island resident contacted Redland City Council who sent a ranger the next day to collect the cat, which was incredibly, still breathing.
The council ranger rushed the cat to the RSPCA’s clinic at Wacol.
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said a team of veterinarians did everything they could to save the animal.
“The cat was stone cold, dehydrated and emaciated,” Mr Beatty said.
“On top of this a paralysis tick was also found on the cat. The vets attempted to revive the cat for three hours but sadly it eventually passed away.”
Mr Beatty said he did not believe the cat was a stray and questioned how anyone could leave it to die such “an awful death”.
“I don’t know how someone could put it in a plastic bag and dump it in a drain while it’s still alive,” he said.
The RSPCA appealed for information yesterday and Mr Beatty said investigators were now following up on a number of leads.
“The investigation is ongoing but a couple of people have called in and we’re following up some leads,” Mr Beatty said.
