THE top performing NAPLAN schools in the Redlands Coast have been revealed, with figures showing the majority are above the state average.
The scorecards released today by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority come after students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 took part in the controversial nationwide standardised test in May.

2019 NAPLAN results: Queensland slides backwards in tests
How every Queensland school performed
Across the Redlands region, Year 3 and Year 5 students at Ormiston College got an average NAPLAN score of 4932 – the area’s top performing primary school.
The school, with 1331 students from Prep to Year 12, secured the highest ranking in the Redlands Coast — ranked 30th in the state for primary and 8th in the state for secondary school results.
Headmaster Brett Webster said he was proud of the efforts shown by students and teachers - especially as the school had the lowest Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage in the top eight.
“(This shows) that Ormiston College is punching above its weight and providing an education where children achieve well beyond what many would expect,” he said.
“Our college commits to the achievement of very high levels of literacy and numeracy as a key priority because we consider this to be the catalyst for student success during their school years and life beyond.”
The second best performing primary schools was Sheldon College where the average result was 4878, followed by Thornlands State School where the schoolwide average score was 4821.
Ormiston College was also Redlands Coast’s top performing high school, receiving an average NAPLAN score of 6135.
The second best performing high school was Sheldon College where the average score was 5951, while Redlands College came in at third place with the average score was 5711.
The results also revealed that 44 per cent of primary schools in the Redlands Coast were below the state average, when the school’s mean score across the five learning areas for Years 3 and 5 was calculated.
The preliminary results showed that 11 out of 25 primary schools, that teach more than 11,000 students, did not meet the state average.
Five high schools out of 10 in the area were also not up to the state benchmark.
The region is not alone, with reports today that Queensland students have gone backwards in more than half of all NAPLAN categories, and scored lower than the national average at every year level and in every subject.
The state performance rankings are based on the total mean scores and only include schools with 20 or more students.
The NAPLAN test remains controversial with the Queensland Government calling for a national review into the test.
But advocates maintain the test is an important way to view student and school progress at one moment in time and schools use the results to improve teaching.
