The father of a 14-year-old schoolboy who was tragically struck by a car while crossing a Redlands road has bravely shared his family’s shock.
Navraj Singh was walking home from the gym on Cleveland Redland Bay Rd, Thornlands at 7.30pm when he was struck by a Tesla.
Mr Singh’s father Mr Jatinder Virk, while speaking from the hospital where his son was being treated, said his son was a keen athlete, volleyball player and only 500m from home when the crash happened.
“He's always very careful and a really positive kid, he loves his volleyball and plays at Cleveland State High School,” he said.
“The crash happened only 500m from our house, he was that close to coming home.”
Navraj went into surgery this afternoon and his left leg may be permanently damaged.
Mr Virk said they are still not really sure what happened.
“He has just gone into surgery at Queensland Children’s Hospital, they put in a lot of stitches and he has heaps of scratches.
“We still can’t figure out what happened, it was a complete shock.
“One of our friends who trains Navraj at the gym told us and then we arrived at the scene, there were so many police and ambulances around.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and the driver of the Tesla was physically unharmed.
No one has been charged.
