Owner and real estate expert David Paterson said that so far two racking systems had been constructed, poised to house 168 vessels from 6-10m in length.

Mr Paterson said the increase storage facilities gave boaties who did not have space at their homes somewhere to put their “toys”.

He said the demand was bolstered by people moving into smaller residential blocks. Mr Paterson said while people were attracted to the Redlands because of its coastline and offerings for boaties, they did not have room on their properties to store a vessel.

“A lot of our inquiries have been from people that don’t have a boat because the don’t have anywhere to put it,” Mr Paterson said.

He said the closure of smaller marinas in the are also meant there was a growing demand for facilities.

Mr Paterson said he hoped the first two racking systems, similar to systems established at Wynnum, would be in operation by the end of next month — offering a full valet-type service for boat owners.

Manager Ken Drummond said with the storage at the end of Beveridge Rd, Thornlands, came a complete service for boat owners.

“If you give us a call, we can have your boat in the water in an hour,” Mr Drummond said.

“We’ll give the boat a rinse and we flush the engines as well (upon return).

“There’s nothing in the Redlands like this.”

Mr Drummond said the 50-year-old marina was a one-stop-shop for boat owners, with marine maintenance businesses also housed at the facility, along with a fully stocked chandlery.

“It’s like a Bunnings for boats.”
