One person has died after a crash involving two cars at a notoriously bad intersection east of Brisbane this morning.

Police said a sedan and ute collided at Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd and Serpentine Creek Rd intersection at Redland Bay about 9.40am this morning.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene and the 33-year-old female driver of the ute was treated for minor injuries and shock.

Police would not release any further details about the victim, and said they were still trying to contact the family.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and the 33-year-old woman is speaking with police.

A Queensland Police spokesman asked for anyone who had driven on the intersection shortly before the crash to contact them.

They also urged anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The road was closed this morning for almost three hours after the crash but has since been cleared.
