A Logan father of three has pleaded guilty to 27 drug-related charges including an incident eight years ago in which he destroyed thousands of dollars worth of medical equipment in an ambulance sent to assist him.

A police prosecutor said an ambulance was called to a Rochedale residence where Nathan John Hockey, 37, was causing a disturbance while in a drugged state.

A resident called an ambulance and while Hockey was inside he broke the stretcher.

“He urinated all over the stretcher, the defibrillator and pediatric blood pressure cuffs,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard nearly $5000 damage was caused.

Hockey’s lawyer said his client was in an abnormal mental state and did not recall the incident.

the court also heard that in July, 2018 Hockey broke into a woman’s home and stole a credit card before spending $1239 in one night using the card.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said because of Hockey’s numerous court no-shows his historical charges were unable to be finalised at that time.

“Not turning up to the court is the most harmful thing you can do for yourself,” Ms Vasta said.

“It’s your absolute determination to bury your head in the sand.

“If you’d dealt with (the charges) years ago you wouldn't have spent nine months in prison.’’

Hockey told the court there was no taking back what he had done.

“I want to fix things for my three daughters,” he said.

Hockey pleaded guilty to charges including: contravening a police direction; breach of bail; possessing dangerous or restricted drugs; entering a premises; fraud; receiving tainted property; possessing drug utensils; wilful damage.

He was convicted but not further punished for the 27 charges after spending nine months in prison awaiting sentence.

He was released immediately on four months’ parole.
