Most outstanding Sheldon College alumni list

Sheldon College has wasted no time in blazing its own path with students making waves in myriad new industries while impressing in long established fields also.

Founded in 1997 its graduates have gone on to make their marks as film makers, YouTube sensations, singers, doctors, lawyers and music producers to name but a few.

We have a look at some of their best-known former students.

MEGAN WASHINGTON

Following her time at Sheldon College, Washington went on to become an ARIA award-winning singer-songwriter after she crashed into the music scene with her debut single Clementine in 2009.

The 2002 graduate even performed at the widely loved music festival, Splendour in the Grass in 2015.

A highlight of the artist’s wonderful career includes landing a slot on one of Australia’s most loved animated television series for preschool children, Bluey, in which she plays the role of Calypso, Bluey’s much-loved schoolteacher.

Other successes include winning an ARIA Music Award for Best Female Artist and also Breakthrough Artist – Release for her 2010 album ‘I Believe you Liar’ and in 2011 Washington won Breakthrough Singer of the Year in the APRA Awards for the same album.

STEPHEN GIBSON

The first of the large Gibson family to graduate from Sheldon College in 2003, Mr Gibson went on to spend the next five years studying a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Business at Griffith University.

After starting at McCarthy Durie Lawyers in 2008 he has paved his way to the top and is now one of the firm’s directors, responsible for leading the McCarthy Durie Lawyers property law department.

Mr Gibson is known for being one of the few lawyers accredited by the Queensland Law Society as a specialist property lawyer. He also sits on many boards and panels external to the firm, including that of the Sheldon College Alumni Advisory Board (AAB).

IAIN HENDERSON

Upon graduating at the end of 2005, Henderson went to study a Bachelor of Business at Griffith University while continuing his voice studies.

Just before he was due to graduate in 2011, Henderson received an offer from the Griffith Conservatorium of Music to study a Bachelor of Music which he completed in 2014.

Over the years his love of music, most particularly opera, continued to grow, demonstrated by his ability to complete his Master of Music Performance at the Royal North College of Manchester within 12 months.

Since then Henderson has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in International Artistry and spends his time travelling to various locations throughout the world performing as a well-respected classical tenor, earning himself the following awards:

SHELLEY BISHOP

Over the course of her career, Bishop, a 2008 college graduate, has been on quite a wild ride in the music industry. Not only is she a multi-instrumentalist, producer and music industry professional, but she is now the studio manager of Studios 301 – the largest and longest running recording facility in the southern hemisphere.

In addition to having received a full scholarship for a PhD from the University of Sydney in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, where she will research Generational Management Systems in the Workplace and Unconventional Leadership in Creative Industries, Bishop also holds a Master of Science in Leadership for the Creative Enterprises, obtained at the Northwestern University of Chicago, a Bachelor of Music from the Elmhurst College in Chicago and an Associate Diploma of Music from Trinity College in London.

Through her time working at Studios 301 and at American studios previously, Bishop has had the opportunity to work with world leading artists including Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga and Mavis Staples just to name a few.

CAMERON MARCH

After graduating from Sheldon College in 2012, Cameron immediately followed his passion for filming by studying a Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production at Griffith University.

Over the years, Cameron has built himself a successful career, even making Sheldon College’s recent and outstanding video advertisement.

In late 2019, Cameron moved to Vancouver, Canada to join in the making of a number of TV productions that air on the Netflix, Sony and CBS networks.

Cameron has earned himself a number of outstanding achievements over the course of his career which include:

DR TYRON MARCH

Sheldon College captain and multiple college award recipient Tyron March has spent the years following graduation well and truly immersed in the medicine field.

Tyron first completed a Bachelor of Medical science before completing a Doctor of Medicine at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. He is now a practising doctor at Cairns Hospital with a special interest in emergency and intensive care medicine while also running Medkit Scrubs, a business which distributes hospital scrubs around the country.

Over the years Tyron has achieved some wonderful things including:

Named Griffith University Peer Assisted Study Session Leader (PASS) in 2014 where he facilitated the learning of a cohort of students studying anatomy and physiology advanced Systems.

Tyron was a primary, secondary and tertiary curriculum tutor specialising in mathematics, chemistry, biology, English and health and physical education.

And he was the Griffith University Chair of the Queensland Medical Student Council while studying.

MADINA MOHMOOD

Since graduating from Sheldon College as College Captain in 2013 Ms Mohmood has made great strides in her endeavours to promote awareness in cultural diversity and empowering young women within the community.

By completing a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) dual degree at the University of Queensland Ms Mohmood was able to follow her passions towards human rights and in doing so earned the following accolades over the years:

-Winner of 7 News overall 2019 Queensland Young Achiever of the Year and Women Empowering Others Awards

-Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards Young Citizen of the Year 2019

JESS CONTE

Following her graduation in 2013 Ms Conte, formally known as Jess Bauer, has become a successful businesswoman by way of being an Instagram and YouTube sensation, gaining more than four million followers between the two popular social networking sites.

Ms Conte’s fame began when she was 19 years old as other young women found enjoyment when watching her make up tutorials, lifestyle vlogs and with her song covers.

In 2016 she met her now husband, Gabe Conte, also a social media influencer.

Together they have attended many red carpet events, covered many songs and have even started their own joint YouTube channel called Jess and Gabriel.
