A Logan man has faced court after an alleged attempt to steal an e-scooter from a group of children at Victoria Point on Saturday, December 2, while carrying what police claimed appeared to be a firearm.
Matthew Luke Thrupp, 33, was taken into custody the same day and appeared before the Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 5, via videolink.
Police alleged Thrupp was seen carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
“He approached a group of boys and unsuccessfully attempted to steal a scooter from them, however none were physically harmed,” a police spokesman said.
“Officers found the man on Colburn Ave and after a brief interaction he was taken into custody without incident.’’
Police said Thrupp was carrying a firearm at the time of his arrest, although the incident was still “subject to investigation”.
He was later taken to hospital, under supervision.
Thrupp was due to appear before the court for a review on February 15.
