Police are calling for witnesses and an investigation is under way after a man from NSW died in a tragic early-morning crash on one of Brisbane’s busiest roads at Rocklea.
Fire Department crews used the jaws of life to extricate the 32-year-old from the ute he was driving after it rolled in a single-vehicle crash on Granard Rd at Rocklea early Thursday.
The man, from the central NSW town of Orange, died at the scene just before 4am.
His ute rolled on its side on Granard Rd at the Ipswich Mwy overpass about 3.30am.
A truck driver who saw the incident called police, who were now investigating.
Police closed Granard Rd in both directions but the Ipswich Mwy remained open.
Authorities have urged motorists to avoid the area.
Peak-hour traffic on the Ipswich Mwy before 8am was at a standstill from the Blunder Rd intersection.
Delays of more than 30 minutes held up traffic on the Ipswich Mwy inbound with diversions in place along the Centenary Fwy.
Motorists from the west and Redbank Plains were diverted to the Centenary Fwy, which was also congested into the city.
Emergency services remained on the scene of the rollover, guiding traffic which slowed to one lane around the crash site at the Ipswich Rd and Granard Rd intersection, under the Ipswich Mwy with major congestion all the way to the Rocklea Showgrounds.
Anyone with dashcam or CCTV from the area around the time of the crash is asked to contact police.
