IndigiScapes reveals new and improved facility
A Redlands icon today cemented itself as a popular eco-tourism destination, after opening the doors to an impressive updated attraction.

A FRESH-FACED Redlands IndigiScapes centre was revealed to excited community members today, with one long-time volunteer applauding the upgrade.
Narelle Renn, of Victoria Point, remembers the early days of IndigiScapes, 20 years ago when a small collection of like-minded environmentalists united.
“Truly, IndigiScapes has changed my life, because it did all the things I’m interested in.
“I’m really interested in the environment and I’m really interested in plants and I really like to work in the environment.”
Over the years Ms Renn, a talented painter, has hosted art exhibitions at the 14.5ha site which has increasingly become a community hub.
One such exhibition highlighted the plight of the region’s turtles.
“I’ve been told that 2-300 die a year due to human rubbish,” she said.
Ms Renn said she was impressed at the revitalised centre, which has received a $3 million transformation, including a new theatrette, interpretation centre and cafe, funded by Redland City Council with the assistance of the State Government.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the project marked the evolution of IndigiScapes into one of Queensland’s premier eco-destinations built around an active community environmental centre.

“IndigiScapes is one of Redlands Coast’s true treasures,” Cr Williams said.
“It was the first of its type in Australia when it opened 20 years ago and, thanks to the latest upgrades and the very busy environmental program they support, it remains a leader in its field,” Cr Williams said.
She said the destination now welcomed more than 40,000 visitors each year, with popularity set to increase thanks to the upgrades.
Wynnum mum Lisa Panting said the new facility was a “huge improvement”.
“I let the kids have the day off school to come here today,” she said.
“It’s a good chance for us to get outdoors.
“Abbey (aged 9) said to me that each Saturday she wants to come here.”
The upgrade follows a new nursery which opened last year and supplies local native plants for gardeners and council projects.
