A bayside father has faced court after brutally attacking his partner while he had an ice pipe stuffed down the front of his underpants, a court has heard.
The Capalaba father was at a home in Alexandra Hills on April 30 last year when he assaulted his partner, leaving her with grazes, bleeding, cuts and red marks to her forehead.
“Police heard yelling coming from inside the address,” the police prosecutor told Cleveland Magistrates Court last week.
“They had an argument involving the wearing of the defendant’s shirt.
“He then ripped the shirt, the defendant then shoved the aggrieved away, striking her in the throat.”
Soon after, the victim met the defendant again at Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre where they had a fight over cigarettes and cash.
“The aggrieved asked the defendant (the dad) for cash and cigarettes, which he declined,” the police prosecutor said.
“The defendant pushed the aggrieved, grabbed her in a bear hug and flung her around.
“The defendant walked back to the aggrieved’s address. He has grabbed a bottle and struck her in the head, causing a bleeding injury to the right side of her head.
“Another occupant struck the defendant with a piece of timber.
“When he was arrested, police located a glass smoking pipe concealed in the front of his underpants.”
The man, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty to 11 charges including contravening a DVO, obstructing police, possessing a pipe, assault and breaching bail conditions.
The man’s lawyer, Lyle Parker, said his client who was remorseful.
“The incident just snowballed,” Mr Parker said.
Magistrate Deborah Vasta said the defendant must clean up his behaviour.
“Where did it all go wrong?” Ms Vasta asked him.
“It got so bad that you had to have someone hit him over the head to stop him.
“I don’t want you for one second to blame them for anything.
“The very fact you had an ice pipe in your pants explains a lot of the behaviour.
“Your job, as their father, is to protect them (his children), not be the perpetrator of it.
“Without the drugs I don’t think you’d be that man.”
The man was convicted and received a head sentence of 18 months’ jail.
His 168 days spent in custody was declared as time served and he was released on parole the next day.
Convictions were recorded.
