Gun, Machete in armed robbery of Wynnum tobacco shop

Police have stepped up their hunt for two men, allegedly armed with a gun and a machete, after a tobacco store in Wynnum was robbed last week.

CCTV footage of the incident shows the two entering the Florence St business carrying a handgun and a machete just before 8pm on April 20.

The footage shows the men, dressed in tracksuits with their faces and heads covered, entering the store through the front door while a female attendant was standing outside.

Police said they demanded money and tobacco products from the female attendant.

Once inside, the pair closed the door and walked past an ATM to the shop’s front counter and tobacco and vape display.

The footage also shows the pair stuffing bags with tobacco and other products.

One of the men, wearing a grey Champion hoodie, a black Nautica cap, black Adidas track pants, white running shoes, gloves, and was armed with a handgun.

Police described him as being in his early 20s, of Pacific Islander descent, approximately 160cm tall, with an athletic build.

The video footage also shows a second man wearing a black hoodie and track pants, holding a machete in a tan sheath while looking inside rooms and stacking items near the doorway.

Police described him as being caucasian, approximately 175cm tall, with a slim build and wearing a black Asics hoodie, black tracksuit pants, running shoes, carrying a black Nike sports bag.

The pair were inside the store for about eight minutes before leaving through a rear door towards Edith St with tobacco products and cash.

Investigators want anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have CCTV footage from the area around the time of the incident.
