A KEY housing construction initiative that includes the creation of jobs and homes in Redlands is well ahead of schedule according to the Queensland Government.
Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said construction had begun on 1,500 homes across the state as part of the state government's Housing Strategy and Housing Construction Jobs Program which is estimated to support almost 1,400 jobs.
Twenty-four new home, in the form of one and two-bedroom apartments have been completed in Redlands (Birkdale) since the announcement of the initiative.
Another two housing projects are currently under construction at Alexandra Hills, to provide a total of four two-bedroom apartments.
According to the Minister’s office a total of 233 projects have commenced in the Logan and Redlands area in the past two years, supporting 206 full time jobs.
Mr de Brenni said an additional 5,500 homes would eventually be built across Queensland to create more social housing in high-growth areas.
