Suspended Dr David Bruce Nixon on colloidal gold

A southside doctor, suspended for nine months after an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient, has denied breaching his suspension after presenting a two-hour lecture on an alternative medicine called colloidal gold and Covid vaccinations.

Dr David Bruce Nixon, suspended on November 9 last year, was the guest speaker at the Doctors Uncensored lecture on the Gold Coast, a One Nation event which cost $5 entry on February 16.

More than 100 people attended the lecture with Dr Nixon’s speech focused on electric frequency treatment, 5G and colloidal gold, a tonic including sub-micron gold nanoparticles, which some believe has anti-inflammatory healing properties.

During the lecture, Dr Nixon said there were bottles of colloidal gold “out the back” and an emcee told the audience they could leave donations for him at the front door.

The audience was also told about electric wave frequency-based “machines” they could buy that were invented by Dr Nixon’s colleagues to treat a range of maladies.

He also displayed a disclaimer on a screen explaining that speaking at the lecture did not breach his suspension or conditions on his registration imposed by the Medical Board of Australia.

Under his suspension, he is not allowed to practise medicine in Australia.

Dr Nixon, based at Silky Oaks Medical Practice in Gumdale-Wakerley, was found by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal in August 2022, to have behaved in a way that constituted professional misconduct after a “short intense” romantic affair with a former patient.

The tribunal heard that the “exploitative” affair involved a naked romp in a training shed and kissing and petting on the back seat of a car.

He was suspended for nine months in November 2022.

Prior to the suspension and under separate conditions placed on his registration by the Medical Board of Australia in February last year, he must not prescribe, supply, administer, or dispense any medication to treat Covid that is not approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Those medications include, but were not limited to, ivermectin, doxycycline and artemisia with the conditions to be reviewed in two years.

Dr Nixon published details about colloidal gold and ivermectin on his website in January this year with details about dosage and how to obtain them through him.

“Colloidal gold certainly appears to have unique properties and would appear to potentially be a very useful therapeutic in long Covid or vaccine injury,” his website said.

He also said his website did not have a specific section dedicated to Covid vaccines or treatments.

“The suspension does not take away my right to speak in public, that’s not related,” he said.

“I was invited to speak as a member of the public, not a practising GP, and was not paid.

“I was speaking about my own experiences.

“My disclaimer at the event set out my position with respect to the Human Rights Act which gives me the right to talk as a citizen and not as a doctor.”

Dr Nixon said he had not been contacted by AHPRA since the lecture and no action has been taken against Dr Nixon in relation to the lecture.

Queensland Health said it was unable to act as Dr Nixon was a private GP and not a Queensland Health employee.

The national watchdog that oversees doctors, AHPRA, said it monitors all suspended practitioners and their compliance with the suspension.

“Dr David Nixon is suspended, as per the QCAT decision and cannot practice as a medical practitioner or use the protected title ‘medical practitioner’,” an AHPRA spokesman said.

“Prior to being suspended, his registration had conditions on it. The conditions prohibited him from issuing vaccination exemption certificates and providing unapproved treatments for Covid.

“We can’t talk about individual practitioners other than what is on the public register.”
