FIRE strike teams are helping protect the Redlands as tinderbox conditions fuel severe bushfires around the state.
Redland Bay Fire Station Officer B Shift Grant Healy assured residents that while emergencies around Queensland were drawing on the state’s firefighters ranks, the Redlands Coast remained well tended to.
“We’re still here … be assured, we’re ready to go,” Mr Healy said.
He said a strike team — of several firefighters and appliances — had been deployed in Brisbane’s east which meant any blazes could be pounced on with force.
“We’ll have a weight of attack on any fire that does start,” he said.
The strike team is one of four in operation around Greater Brisbane, with the northern, southern, eastern and western areas being covered.

Mr Healy said weather conditions meant the service had dropped back the ‘extra’ tasks, in order to be even better prepared should a blaze strike.
With a high fire warning for the south east and winds likely to pick up over the weekend, Mr Healy advised residents — especially in the region’s greener areas like Mount Cotton and Redland Bay — not to panic but certainly remain vigilant.
He reminded residents of a current total fire ban affecting the region, which eliminated the lighting of any fire, including cooking fires, as well as activities like using power tools, welding, grinding and lighting fireworks.
Mr Healy also urged people to remove any fire fuel from their homes.
“Clean up around the house and gutters,” he said.
He said a small fire that ignited on a median strip along Finucane Rd yesterday was most likely the result of a cigarette but thrown from a car.
He said people should be familiar with information on the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services website, including how to prepare for fire season and what to put in an emergency kit. He said regular fire updates were also available through the website.
Redland City Council has reminded residents to access a copy of their suburb’s disaster plan as published online in the Redland City Disaster Plan.
