A bayside operations manager for a safety product company has faced court after a paint and sip class combined with pub drinks ended in him causing traffic chaos.

A bayside operations manager has faced court after a paint and sip class combined with pub drinks caused him to run a red light nearly crashing into an oncoming driver.

Capalaba resident, Peter James Mclean Brodie, 34, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on Monday, February 13, to one count of driving under the influence of liquor and one count of driving without due care and attention.

The court heard Brodie was drink driving on Moreton Bay Rd in Capalaba on January 15 at 2.30am.

“As the car (an oncoming D-MAX Ute) was driving through the lights at an intersection on Mt Cotton Rd, a Triton dual cab utility vehicle made a right turn at a red arrow at the set of lights in front of it,” the police prosecutor said.

“The driver of that vehicle (The D-MAX) was forced to brake heavily to avoid a collision with him.

“We did speak to Brodie after, he did not recall travelling through the red arrow.

“He told police he had consumed six to seven Great Northern beers at the Alex Hills Hotel, he had attended a paint and sip event prior to that where he consumed two to three glasses of wine.”

The court heard he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.162 per cent.

Brodie, who was self represented, said that he would have to find other ways to get to work.

“I am currently an operations supervisor at a place called Bunzl,” Mr Brodie said.

“I have good friends that will help me.”

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said he must have consumed a lot of alcohol to receive his reading.

“It must have been those really big glasses that hold a whole bottle (of wine),” Ms Vasta said.

Brodie was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for nine months.
