Aaron John Porter, 28, had his bail denied when he appeared via video link at the Cleveland Magistrates Court today.

Porter, a Wellington Point man, was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle; four counts of driving uninsured; one count of driving without due care; four counts of driving without a licence; one count of failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash and four counts of driving an unregistered vehicle.

The court heard Porter was an Ice addict and had allegedly committed driving offences across Cleveland, Capalaba, Wellington Point and Birkdale between May and June with much of his alleged exploits caught on CCTV.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta even showed the defendant printouts from CCTV footage where he was captured during his alleged offending.

“Do you know there is a Facebook page set up targeting you because people are so angry and frustrated with you running around on this trail bike?” Magistrate Vasta said.

“That is how annoying you are to society.

“It is a strong case, you are on CCTV; the bike is there.

“I am concerned for other people because if you get out, access another vehicle and kill somebody who do you think they will blame?

“They will blame the magistrate and the court system.”

The court heard on May 14 in Birkdale Porter allegedly sped away from police at speed into oncoming traffic, later mounting a traffic island.

On May 16 he allegedly hit a car with his motorcycle and gave a false name.

And on another occasion he allegedly drove dangerously with someone on the back of his vehicle while running through red lights and mounting kerbs.

Porter was also alleged to have committed his driving offences while on Ice with a glass pipe at hand.

The court also heard the defendant had previously been convicted on three occasions while on a suspended sentence and had failed to appear at court on a further three instances.

Police prosecutor Tetley said it was the perfect example where a court needs to be “merciless” given the alleged danger posed by a defendant.

Defence solicitor Tsimos said it was her client’s first stint in jail and that he had dried out from his Ice use during his 24-day incarceration.
