TRAFFIC woes on one of the Redland’s most notorious roads is being busted faster as more funding flows into upgrade projects.

The Queensland Government today announced $15 million in additional funding for the Cleveland-Redland Bay Rd duplication, a project that will create an extra 23 jobs.

The cash splash is part of $400 million in new, accelerated funding for Queensland roads to supercharge the state’s economy through the Covid-19 recovery.

The funding boost was announced as part of The Queensland Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and recover for Queensland Jobs, to help the State recover from Covid-19 with a focus on backing Queensland jobs.

It would help fast track work to compliment the $37 million already bound for the project to convert the road between Benfer Rd and Magnolia Parade from two to four lanes, and also improve key intersection.

An extra $5 million has also been earmarked for the upgrade of the Anita St intersection itself.

The route provides a vital link to Victoria Point State High School as well the shopping destinations and is the connection to the city’s northern suburbs.

It is also the route to work for those who live in southern Redlands and work in Brisbane.

Labor Member for Redlands Kim Richards said pre-planned work was due to start on the long-awaited project in the coming weeks, however the government was still nailing down exactly how the “very welcome” additional funds would be spent.
