A bayside carpenter has faced court after what was supposed to be a happy wedding took a dramatic turn.

Capalaba’s Kyle James Milianis, 25, pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court today, December 19, to one count of driving U.I.L (Under the Influence).

The court heard Milianis was intercepted by police at the BP off the Cunningham Highway in Purga, West of Ipswich City, on November 5.

“We intercepted him as he was parked outside the BP,” the police prosecutor said.

“He returned a reading of 0.156 per cent back in 2020 and today, his reading is 0.172 per cent.

“These are two major readings in the last two years.

“He continues to place the community at risk.”

Milianis’s lawyer, Danielle Bunning, said her client was caught after leaving his boss’ wedding, where they had a verbal argument.

“He was attending a wedding of his former boss,” Ms Bunning said.

“He had a couple of drinks and did intend to stay over at his boss’ place that night.

“Unfortunately a verbal altercation arose, my client left before he went back to apologise.

“He decided he didn’t want it to escalate further and decided to leave in his car.”

Ms Bunning said Milianis had suffered hardship in the past few years.

“He has gone through a lot, his mother passing away, his eight-year relationship breaking down,” Ms Bunning said.

“He did lose his job that night because of his fight with his boss.”

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said Milianis needed to learn a lesson.

“We’re trying to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Ms Vasta said.

He was given a probation order of two months and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
