FOUR decades of history almost came to an end for the Capalaba Swimming Club two years ago.
Then in came three of the club’s stalwarts to save the day.
The Capalaba Swimming Club was close to collapsing in mid-2017 with a shortage on members the main issue but Stuart Greenway, Salli-Ann Chapman and Chris Webster were not going to let that happen.
All three were former swimmers at the club and Greenway had also been president for years since his involvement started in 1991.
Now, due to the efforts of this heroic trio and several other volunteers, the club will reach its 40th anniversary year.
“That’s why we stepped in, there’s so much history there for the club and us individually, we thought we’d give it a go to try and get the club back up and running and we’ve done that,” Greenway said.
“We’ve grown by 27 swimmers this season, which is a great result, and the future looks really bright.
“This will be my last season in charge, we’ll hand it over to others who have children swimming at the club and we leave it quite happy that with some assistance, these people can continue to take the club forward.”
Greenway, who will still stay involved in lesser roles, will finish his time as president at the club’s presentation night on Tuesday.
Aggregate points champions will be named for each stroke in each age group, as well as aggregate champions for their whole age groups and a champion for the entire club.
Capalaba Swimming will then resume in Term 4.
