Capalaba couple aiming to help other parents with cuddle cots

A Redlands couple cherished every moment they got to spend with their newborn son and now they are fundraising to help other parents.

EMMA and Nick Quinn will always cherish the time they spent with their son Harry.

Harry was diagnosed with Potters Syndrome 19 weeks into Emma’s pregnancy and doctors told his parents he would not survive labour.

But against all odds he did and was born at 22 weeks with the Capalaba couple were able to spend an hour with their son before he died.

And thanks to a cuddle cot at the Redlands Hospital, Mr and Mrs Quinn spent two more days with Harry.

A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that has been designed to fit within a small cot. It allows for babies, who have passed away to remain with their families so that they are not required to be cooled in a mortuary environment.

“It was just amazing being able to spend that time with him, seeing his facial expressions, feeling his heartbeat and feeling him move, those were moments we will never forget,” Mrs Quinn said.

“We were able to create some special memories with photos … Never have I felt a love that I feel for him. I miss him every second of the day and my heart is broken.

“Without that cuddle cot, we wouldn’t have been able to spend that time with him, so we are very thankful.”

Now the couple are fundraising for Bears of Hope, a pregnancy and infant loss support group, to try and raise $6000 to be able to buy another cuddle cot for other parents.

“We want to be able to provide some family’s with the comfort we had in the most unimaginable situations,” Mrs Quinn said.
