A Bayside man has asked to get his inevitable prison time “over and done with” after a series of drug and driving offences landed him before a magistrate.

Brendan William Logan pleaded guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court on December 19 to driving with methamphetamines in his system while being the holder of a provisional licence, driving under 24-hour suspension and driving without a licence.

He also pleaded guilty to a number of minor drug offences and obstructing police.

A police prosecutor told the court Logan was intercepted by police on August 27 at Birkdale where a saliva sample revealed he had been using methamphetamines.

“He was placed on a 24-hour driving suspension and was caught driving less than 10 hours later,” she said.

“He was later caught driving while he was demerit point suspended.

“Upon searching his vehicle, police found scales and multiple syringes in a backpack and used syringes in his pants, on September 4.’’

Logan was later stopped by police at Fortitude Valley on November 4 when he appeared to be under the influence of a substance.

“Police asked to speak with him and he walked away without talking,’’ the prosecutor said.

“When they asked again, he started to sprint away and officers believed this behaviour to be suspicious.

“They gave chase on foot and yelled for him to stop. He was detained and during a search police found two capsules of (nerve medication) Lyrica.’’

Logan, who defended himself, repeatedly interrupted the prosecutor and the magistrate and was asked to be quiet.

He said he could not emotionally “open up to people” and parole was not an option.

“I’d rather not have to report if jail is hanging over me. I want to get the time over and done with,” Logan said.

“I’m not good at sharing my life with anyone. They won’t get anything out of me other than my name and address.’’

Magistrate Deborah Vasta said she took Logan’s guilty plea into consideration.

“As you will not consent to a probation order I have got to go with a suspended sentence,” Ms Vasta said.

“Your last drug offence was 2016 but your traffic history is four pages.

“If you commit another offence you will be back before the court.’’

Logan was disqualified from driving for 13 months and sentenced to one month’s jail, suspended for six months. Convictions were recorded.
